If MacBeth had offered to eradicate the gargoyles for free, I think Xanatos wouldn't have accepted his offer so easily. There had to be a price to keep the latter in the dark about MacBeth's true intentions for removing the gargoyles from the castle to his mansion and it was not as protectors for his home. His real motive was that if he had her clan captive, Demona would come to get them out. Goliath quickly shot those hopes down. She's their enemy. She won't come.
